Hon. Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull believes that it is time the BVI puts its house in order noting that the buck stops at leadership.
“We continue to be our worst enemy, this is the same Member and Minister (Hon. Andrew Fahie
) who has recently uttered that he don’t know wants the purpose of the CoI
, (it) ain’t finding nothing,” the Second District Representative said recently in the House of Assembly.
He added, “those types of comments coming from the leader of this territory is what is continuing to keep the CoI
and keep us in these shackles that now are closing in on us.”
He said the BVI needs to clean house.
“Put our house in order, something I have been saying for years. Before I blame any Indian, white, Chinese, Japanese, I blame it on us because the leadership…buck stops at leadership…we are leaders, we have to ensure systems are in place,” Hon. Turnbull said.
He also complained that for months he has been trying to get the Premier and Finance Minister Hon. Fahie
to provide a clear picture of the state of the territory’s finances.
“To this day all the answers I have received there is not a clear-cut picture from the numbers …show us where we are as a country, the economic position of this country or how COVID
-19 has affected us, what is the impact, where is the stats?” he asked.
However, Hon. Turnbull said the paradox of uncertainty and finding money to spend on political consultants is worrying.
“The paradox is you hear we don’t have money but then you give away $20,000 here and $20,000 there. You hire political advisors to the tune of $100,000. It equates to what the Bible says just wickedness because you can’t tell me one thing and then tomorrow you do contrary to what you say,” he related.
The Second District Representative said the BVI people deserve better.
