The number of active positive COVID-19 cases in the British Virgin Islands is now nearing 700 persons.
The territory’s latest epidemiological summary dated July 7 shows that 659 persons in the BVI have the virus.
The summary says 622 are located on the main island of Tortola, 15 are on vessels in BVI waters, 13 are located on Virgin Gorda while seven and two are located on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, respectively.
The overall number of COVID
-19 cases recorded in the BVI now stands at 976.
In the meantime, 23,473 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID
have been administered in the territory to date. A breakdown of this shows that 13,803 persons have received their first dose of the vaccine
while 9,670 have gotten both doses.
In light of the growing number of cases, the government has reimplemented a night-time curfew that will run from 11 pm to 5 am daily. A number of businesses have also been ordered closed while others have been placed on under specific restrictions.
