BVIHSA staff facing late payment due to banking issues

Salaries of some staff of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) will not be paid on time this month-end because of banking issues.

An email sent to employees recently stated that the closure of CIBC First Caribbean International Bank will affect payment for the pay period of November 30, 2021.

CIBC said in a notice on November 29, 2021, that their Road Town branch "is closed until further notice." The bank also told customers that they could access their accounts at any of their ATM's, online and on mobile banking services.

“Please note that due to a combination of various issues beyond our control, the salaries of employees who bank with the under noted institutions will be delayed: CIBC First Caribbean – Said bank is closed until further notice and there was no one present to receive payroll today. We will spare no effort tomorrow to ensure that we find a solution to this problem,” the email said.

Payments through Banco Popular & First Bank also affected

The email said employees banking with Banco Popular and First Bank will also be affected.

“As previously advised, these banks require two business days for payroll processing and we missed the deadline. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to you and solicit your patience and understanding in this matter.”

A further update will be provided on the progress of salary payments today, November 30, 2021.

The BVIHSA has one of the largest staff contingents in the territory.
