Isabella Morris Primary Being Demolished
The hurricane-ravaged Isabella Morris Primary, located in the Carrot Bay community on Tortola, is being demolished.
The demolition work commenced yesterday Friday, October 1, and will now pave the way for a new school to be rebuilt further inland.
A government-issued press release indicated that the institution had been deemed structurally unsafe following the impact of the said hurricanes.
Commenting on the undertaking, Education Minister Hon. Natalio Sowande Wheatley said: “We acknowledge and appreciate the many memories that were created by principals, teachers and students who attended and graduated from the school. We will ensure that we honour the strong legacy of this institution, named in honour of one of our education stalwarts, the late Isabella Morris.”
He further said that his ministry “is in the embryonic stages of planning for this site to be developed into a modern facility to house a junior school, and that community stakeholder meetings will be held to discuss design plans and the way forward for this development.”
In that regard, members of the public are urged to exercise caution around the area.
