‘It pains my heart to see the state of our roads’- Chad C. George

Independent candidate in the First District Chad C. George has lamented the state of the roads in the district as well as territory-wide and the constant water shortage, which he says will be among the issues he will be championing if elected.

Mr George was at the time addressing the electorate of the First District at his campaign launch at Cappoon’s Bay Field on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Among the long list of issues Mr George highlighted need addressing in the district, he spent more words on the state of the roads and the water issues plaguing the district.

“The roads in the district – actually the territory on a whole are becoming a daily hazard and need to be addressed. We all have had to swerve our vehicles to dodge potholes and after a few months of driving on these roads we have had to repair something or the other, and for some that may turn out to be costly repairs."

Mr George added, “It pains my heart to see the state of our roads and for too long we have been forced to drive on them. Once elected, with the help of the people I will work to bring solutions to these issues.”

'I will go out & seek solution to water problem'- Chad C. George

Touching on the issues of water shortage affecting the district for many years, Mr George said it is something he will make every effort to help resolve.

“We have three huge reservoirs in the District, two in Carrot Bay and one at Zion Hill. So the question many are asking is “why does water continue to be off for lengthy periods of time?” Well, we have been given an answer to this question and with this knowledge as a District Representative, it means I would have to engage the relevant departments and persons to find the quickest and most efficient way to come up with a solution to this problem as well as the funds to make the solution a reality. I will not sit back and wait for the solution to drop into my lap, I will go out and seek a solution to the problem and keep you the constituents of the District, informed every step of the way.”

Among the many other things Mr George said need urgent tackling in the district and which he will be pushing for are: Pushing to resolve the issue of smoke from the Incinerator that affects residents in the district, the restoration of Abraham Leonard Community Centre, establishing a First District Fishermen and Farmers’ Market, developing the Carrot Bay festival village site into a cultural village, re-opening of the Post office, Smugglers Cove development and continuation of the cleanup initiative/ beautification of the district.

Mr George said his message was not filled with empty promises but his commitment to the people of the First District and how he intends to lead with honesty, innovation and vision.
