SDA Churches in VI marching against gun violence today

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches in the Virgin Islands are ‘putting down their feet’ against the scourge of gun violence in the territory.

The various SDA churches will be engaged in a March of Witness against Gun Violence in Road Town from 3:30pm today, April 9, 2022.

March Route

The march will begin at Festival Grounds and make its way down De Castro Street, into Administration Drive, up Waterfront Drive, into Fishlock Road, then Long Bush, Lower Estate, Huntums Ghut, Station Road and back to Festival Grounds.

According to Pastor Leriano R.J. Webster, the SDA Church is aware of the issue of gun violence and the grief that it has been causing families.

Public awareness

“In recent times our families and our community have been greatly affected, losing loved ones due to gun violence; hence, pastors, uniform bodies and members of the church will be marching as a way of creating public awareness of the need to end gun violence in our small close-knitted society,” Pastor Webster told Virgin Islands News Online.

Pastor Webster said the SDA church deeply cares and is expressing condolences to all those who have lost loved ones.

“The church hopes and pray that we as a community can live in truth, love and harmony. Remember BVI love is who we are!”

Hope Beyond evangelistic series

The March of Witness will also be used to herald a grand 3-week evangelistic series, dubbed Hope Beyond, with evangelist Samuel Telemaque slated for Festival Grounds from April 15, 2022.

“The church believes that this series will restore hope, happiness and joy in the lives of our residents in the community,” Pastor Webster stated.

There have already been two fatal shootings in the Virgin Islands for the year and several arrests for gun-related offences.

There is currently a firearm amnesty in the VI.
