Section of retaining wall collapses @ Cane Garden Bay

Section of retaining wall collapses @ Cane Garden Bay

A section of a road in Cane Garden Bay, just past the bridge leading to Ballast Bay, has been partially blocked due to a retaining wall collapsing due to soil erosion.

The erosion is being blamed on the recent intermittent inclement weather.

Apart from the damaged section of the retaining wall, there were no other damages to property or any injury to persons or animals, according to reports reaching our newsroom.

The damage is engaging the attention of the Public Works Department (PWD).

According to the Acting PWD Director, Mr Jeremy W. Hodge, PWD has removed most of the debris on the road.

According to the Acting PWD Director, Mr Jeremy W. Hodge, PWD has removed most of the debris on the road.

"The ground is still very saturated so we can't remove all at the moment as more of the soil will destabilise," Mr Hodge told our newsroom, while noting he was thankful no one was hurt when the section of the retaining wall collapsed.

Motorists and pedestrians alike are being asked to traverse the area with caution.

"Persons heading through Cane Garden Bay from Ballast Bay or vice versa, please take caution. The soil is extremely wet and we can't simply clear the area until it dries a bit,” PWD had earlier stated.
