The 6 Things Keeping Gwyneth Paltrow Sane at Home

The 6 Things Keeping Gwyneth Paltrow Sane at Home

From moisturizer and meditation apps to cookbooks, here’s how Gwyneth Paltrow is practicing self-care at home.
1. I’m cooking.

Lots of cooking, lots of figuring out easy staples to make, and a little bit of experimentation… I’ve been very into the Canal House cookbooks over quarantine. Being on Long Island in the summer, they’re very ingredient-driven and you can do it by season and what’s available, so that’s been great. Also I still use the River Cafe cookbooks out of London all the time. Lucky Peach did 101 Asian recipes that’s really easy. My kids love Chinese food. Who doesn't?

2. I’m meditating.

I’ve also really recommitted to my meditation practice, which I did very sporadically when I could, and now I do it every single morning. I do Transcendental Meditation, so that’s something you learn with a teacher and they give you a mantra. There’s an app called Insight Timer that I use, and then sometimes when I need a little meditation in the afternoon [I use] The Breathing App. You follow a ball expanding and contracting and breathe along with it. Even five minutes is really helpful.

3. I’m taking care of my skin.

My beauty routine is basically good sleep, good hydration, [and] I try to sweat every day. I’m obviously a big fan of our Goop products. The Microderm Exfoliator is incredible. We have a new moisturizer called Goopgenes, which is insane. Recently, to deal with [the fact that] you’re looking at your face on Zoom all the time, I did a drop of this purified [injection] called Xeomin just to help smooth out the wrinkles and the frown lines. A little extra help!

4. I’m working out.

I do Tracy Anderson probably four times a week-Apple does it with me, which is really fun-and then I’ll do a CorePower yoga [class] online. I love The Class by Taryn Toomey as well. That’s my rotation.

5. I’m picking apples.

I feel so lucky to be on the East Coast right now. It’s so beautiful… I’ve never been here when my apples are ripe, so I’m excited to be here. There’s nothing like picking an apple off a tree and eating it. I’m not a good baker at all, but my best friend Mary is here right now from Los Angeles and she makes the best apple pies. We’ve been picking apples with all the kids and she’s been making apple pies. It’s heaven.

6. I’m spending time with my family.

By far the best part has been all the time at home with my kids. It’s been a total gift and a revelation and completely delightful to all be working together around the kitchen table.
