‘There is no East End without Long Look’ vice versa- Hon Penn

Opposition Leader in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) has called on residents of both the East End and Long Look communities to unite and tackle challenges together.

“We all face the same common problems, the same common struggles and yearn for the same basic fulfillment in life. As the world changes and we experience new challenges, so do our communities,” Hon Penn said in an opening statement of his District 8 Neighborhood community newsletter published in December 2021.

“Today, we are no longer a homogenous community, but a multicultural community. So how do we exist together? We must change our attitudes and set policies that create justice for all,” he added,

As part of the newsletter launch, Hon Penn said it is his sincere hope that the initiative will in some way support the community to rise to a nobler level, “where we are not our own barriers to the progress of our communities; it is common knowledge, that there is no East End without Long Look, and there is no Long Look without East End,” he added.

“Our history is intertwined with blood, sweat and tears, as we struggle alongside each other to create and maintain a standard of life and livelihood for our present and future generations.”

Hon Penn also encouraged members of both communities regardless of political affiliations, cultural heritage, and nationality, to be a part of his newsletter group.

“Be a part of this platform to bring awareness to some of our root problems, analyse the issues and offer solutions, as well as feature any content that fulfils the purpose of our Community Newsletter.“

He also called on community members to pattern their lives after Jesus and added that the values of Christ were exemplified in his life, teachings in which he demonstrated truth, respect, integrity, humility, courage and service for all mankind.

“We too can pattern our lives after him with the same standards to make our communities and ultimately our territory a better place for people of all ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds,” the Opposition Leader said.
