'They are carving out the hillside’– Hon Fraser on incinerator woes

Senior Legislator in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA) Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) has complained that he is not being made preview to plans at the Pockwood Pond incinerator, an area he says falls within his district.

Speaking during the Continuation of the 3rd Sitting of the 4th Session of the 4th House of Assembly on June 7, 2022, the legislator described the site as a place for open dumping and burning since the incinerator has been down over the past few months.

“I'm hearing from the Minister, it has been down since February. The incinerator in and of itself, because it never had a scrubber, is a health hazard. Take away the incinerator and stop burning the garbage outdoors, that's even worse over hazard,” he added.

They're 'carving out hillside' - Hon Fraser

“But it doesn't end there, Madam Speaker, because what they're doing is they're carving out the hillside, carving it out...and covering the burning objects or whatever it is they burn up there,” he said.

Hon Fraser complained that worst yet, all of it is happening in his district, and he is not being made preview to plans for the incinerator

“I know nothing about it. I know they are burning garbage... But there's a huge operation, Madam Speaker.”

He added “If you're coming into my constituency to do all of this, I need to know, Madam Speaker, it is only parliamentary decency, parliamentary procedure. I'm not asking for anything more, that’s all I’m asking for.”
