UK MP Dominic R. Raab praises sterling handling of COVID pandemic in VI

UK MP and Secretary of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Rt Hon Dominic R. Raab has praised the Andrew A. Fahie Government for its sterling handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Virgin Islands (VI).

In a letter seen by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) sent to Premier Fahie on April 9, 2021, the MP complemented not only the Government for its effective strategy, but also commended VI’s local health professionals for containing the spread of the Virus through the protocols implemented by the Fahie administration.

Amidst Opposition criticisms, Premier Fahie along with Health Minister, Hon Carvin Malone (Al) had repeatedly said the government’s pandemic strategy was one that balanced lives and livelihoods, with COVID-19 vaccination as the key.

Health Professional commended for role

“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the BVI’s health professionals for their continuing response to COVID-19. It is testament to them, and the protocols that your government have put in place, that the BVI has had so few cases,” he said.

Hon Raab also complimented the VI public for their response to the government’s vaccination drive, with well over 8,000 people in the territory having received their first dose of the UK donated Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines.

“I am pleased that the UK will be able to provide enough vaccinations for the adult population, and it is reassuring to know that over 8,000 people in the BVI have already received their vaccinations,” the MP said.

As the local Government’s aggressive vaccination drive continues, Hon Fahie said the VI is set to fully re-open its economy in June of 2021.
